Frequently Asked Questions
What is the new city search feature in Proton VPN’s iOS app?
The new city search feature allows users to quickly find servers in specific cities or regions by typing the location name. This eliminates the need to manually scroll through long server lists, making server selection faster and more convenient.
How does server load sorting improve VPN performance?
Server load sorting shows how busy each server is and allows users to arrange computers based on load percentage. Choosing servers with lower loads can result in better speeds, more stable connections, and improved overall performance.
Is the Proton VPN iOS update available now?
Yes, the update with server load sorting and city search is already available in the latest version of the Proton VPN iOS app. Similar interface improvements are also being planned for Proton VPN’s Mac and Linux apps, although release dates have not been confirmed yet.

How will these Proton VPN user interface Updates appear?

More sophisticated filtering and sorting features are already available in the server list for Windows and Android. In comparison, iOS occasionally needed more manual navigation. These same filtering options are now available for iOS thanks to the update.

On iOS, choosing a country has been simple until now. In big nations like the US, UK, Australia, and Canada, where customers frequently desired a particular city, the problem first surfaced. To get there, you had to navigate through the nation panel’s lengthy lists of cities.

Instead of carefully scrolling through the list, users may now simply put in a city or state using the new search feature. The update expands upon a more comprehensive interface change that Proton implemented in 2025, when it redesigned its Windows, iOS, and Android applications to add features like widgets and personalized profiles and make navigating easier.

Load-based sorting is the second addition. A server’s load indicates how busy it is at any particular moment. In the past, iOS users had to actively switch between servers or rely on the automatic “Fastest” selection to compare performance.

Now that sorting is enabled, servers can be rearranged according to load, which eliminates the need for trial and error in locating lower-traffic areas. The server list directly displays the load percentage.

The most recent version of the iPhone app already has the update. Peterson reports that similar efforts are underway to align UX for Linux and Mac. Proton has not disclosed when such changes will be available as stable releases for Mac and Linux.
