General overview

Norton is a widely renowned online privacy protection software that launched its services in 1990. The company offers several products & services, including Secure VPN, AntiTrack, Privacy assistant monitor, and its infamous Norton 360, which comes with a bundle of all the security features.

The Norton VPN doesn’t provide any good security features. The VPN has the worst US jurisdiction and logs too much user data. Also, its kill switch doesn’t work when changing servers. The service works amazingly on streaming platforms, including Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. You can also connect up to 10 devices simultaneously on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

Norton VPN has servers in 28 countries, which is relatively lower, but, Surprisingly, it bypasses censorship in China with every server. Additionally, the VPN has an easy-to-use interface for all platforms and comes with cheap pricing plans.

Speed

Norton VPN’s speeds have proved to be a game changer in recent times. It provides impressive local speeds and can be compared with the top-tier VPNs in the market. However, it still needs to improve its far-way connection speeds. On average, the VPN provides 93% to 95% download and upload speeds. This speed is fast enough for everyday activities, including 4K streaming, buffer-free browsing, and fast gaming.

When connected to distant servers, the VPN drastically drops its speeds to 0.42 and 0.48 download and upload speeds (In South Africa). This makes it more than 95% of speed loss. However, other nations, including the US, Japan, and Germany, still provide good speeds. Africa is overall the most affected when using Norton Secure VPN. Unlike the other far-away servers, which would still offer faster speeds.

Score 7.1

Servers

The service has 2000+ IP addresses, though they are located in only 28 countries which is quite a small server network. Most of the servers are in Europe and North America. However, other continents like the Middle East, Oceania, Africa, and South America are also covered by a few servers. There aren’t any servers in India, Hong Kong, or South Korea, meaning users could face difficulties connecting to any of these locations.

Norton Secure VPN is one of the best in unblocking geo-restricted content. The service allows streaming on every primary site, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, and more. Unfortunately, the VPN doesn’t offer city-level servers. So, you can’t select between different locations. Instead, you have to wait for the VPN to restore functionality.

Torrenting experience isn’t fruitful using the Norton VPN. P2P traffic is blocked on all of its servers. Also, its intrusive logging policy and disappointing security features don’t make it a reliable VPN for torrenting.

Score 2.6

Support

Norton VPN has quite disappointing customer support. An online support section contains various articles regarding Account help, Device Protection, Download & Installation, and more. There is also an “Ask the Community” option where you can join the conversation of the customers and experts for better knowledge and assistance. Overall, they have a variety of helpful material, but they provide more incorrect and misleading information than solving problems.

A 24/7 live chat feature is also available on the VPN’s website. Although, their technical staff lacks information and doesn’t even possess basic knowledge regarding the service. Disappointingly, you have to provide a phone number and email address to use the live chat feature. This means you must provide personally identifiable information to get help, which sounds riskier than safe.
